How To Increase The Authority Of Any Website
SEO for Websites |
this is one of the most common questions
seos here really authority metrics are a
great way to measure a website's seo
success but did you know that authority
metrics don't actually contribute to a
website's ranking ability.
So focusing on
enhancing the elements that are used to
calculate the authority metric is the
best way to improve a website's rankings
with this in mind i'm going to run you
through our top tips to give any website
a boost in authority
hey it's emily here from fat joe let's
start with understanding how authority
metrics work.
Now when i talk about
authority metrics i'm referring to those
such as mosley domain authority and
ahrefs domain rating whichever you use
they'll show you a similar thing they're
a measure of how authoritative a website
is and how likely it is to rank in
google neither mods nor ahrefs specify
exactly how the metrics are calculated
but we do know that both use a
logarithmic scale meaning that it's
harder to get from a score of 80 to 90
than it is from 10 to 20.
Moz's domain
authority measures the total number of
backlinks and the metrics surrounding
those backlinks an ahrefs calculates
domain rating using the number of
linking domains.
The domain rating of
those linking websites and the number of
sites a domain links to are you with me
so far in general the more authoritative
websites are more likely to rank in
google get more visits to their website
and drive more conversions. Now as you
may already appreciate the primary
factor used to calculate these authority
scores is not the only factor that can
influence a website's rankings but the
relevance of the backlinks is definitely
up there with one of the most important
ranking factors according to google
themselves and mars alongside industry
leading seos acknowledge that the higher
domain authority scores represent a
greater ability to rank now.
Something i
want to emphasize at this point is that
the authority score whether that's d.a
or dr simply predicts the potential
ranking success of a particular domain
as opposed to actually contributing to a
domain's ranking position although with
that in mind understanding a website's
authority score relative to its
competitors can be really useful when
analyzing ranking opportunities for
example if your website has a domain
rating or dr of 35 and upon analyzing
the search results of a potential low
competition keyword you see that the
current ranking websites have a domain
rating of between 30 and 45.
You know that it's likely that a
detailed piece of quality content will
enable you to rank for that search term
alternatively if the ranking websites
have a da of over 50 then you know that
it's probably unlikely to be able to
rank for that search term unless your da
is over 52 thus saving you time and
resources in attempting to rank for that
keyword domain authority scores are also
used by search engines to understand the
quality of a website's backlink profile
the higher the da or dr of the linking
domains the more authority is being
passed to your website therefore the
higher the authority score and the more
likely it is to rank what is a good
authority score.
We often get asked what
a good authority score looks like and
the answer
it depends because it's all relative no
surprise there say for example your
business sells a really niche product
such as collectible civil war toy
soldiers you may find that a domain
rating of 30 plus may be enough to get
ranking on the first page of google
alternatively if your website sells
bikes and you want to get it ranking for
best mountain bike anything lower than
40 is unlikely to rank on the first page
of the search results how to boost
authority
now let's look at how you can boost the
factors that affect the authority score
of a website number one don't neglect
seo basics to be considered an authority
in anything you have to be good at it
and the same goes for a website to have
a good website you need to have the
basics covered this means optimizing the
on-page content to ensure that you're
offering the best user experience
including improving your page speed
navigation and mobile friendliness two
check your backlink profile google has
confirmed when ranking websites they
check whether other prominent websites
on the subject link to the page as
that's a good sign that the information
is of high quality creating a good
backlink profile means building quality
backlinks and monitoring existing
backlinks and linking domains you may
find that you need to balance out your
backlink profile to mimic something
that's more natural the relevance and
authority of the linking domains can
have a huge impact on how google
perceives your website so improving this
can improve your authority scores
respectively three learn from others
check out what it is that your
competitors are doing that you might be
missing if they have an authority score
closer to what you're aiming for then
it's likely that you can pick up a few
pointers use the google ranking factors
as a checklist to analyze your
competitors how fresh is their contents
are they updating it regularly and how
many good quality backlinks do they have
also have a look at how they're
optimizing their content and addressing
user search intent note down any key
takeouts and how these can be applied to
the website that you're optimizing make
sure though that you consider the
timeline analyze how long it took for
these websites to build these authority
scores and plan your strategy
accordingly seo is a long game but it
can yield brilliant results four brand
equity is important to build domain
authority
You need to build brand
authority too this can be achieved by
increasing brand awareness and creating
positive experiences for customers there
are many ways to achieve this but try
building brand authority by increasing
the number of branded anchor texts
within your battling profile
distributing your brand name on relevant
authoritative websites is a great way to
increase visibility with the right
audiences this along with gathering
positive reviews about your products and
services is the digital equivalent to
word of mouth marketing this brand
recognition will come full circle
leading to more brand trust which will
almost definitely translate to even more
natural brand mentions thus improving
the quality of the backlink profile and
authority scores
there are a few more things to consider
when measuring authority metrics ahrefs
domain rating only considers backlinks
there are so many other factors that can
influence a website's google ranking so
it's best not to get caught up on the dr
number this is unless you're
specifically analyzing your authority in
relation to your backlink profile or
you're monitoring the quality of your
backlink profile over time moz's domain
authority doesn't take into account any
google penalties this doesn't
necessarily refer to the website that
you're working on unless they have any
google penalties but it is important to
consider if you're looking at link
building such as blogger outreach
besides the two that i focused on in
this video there are others this
includes majestics trust flow and
semrush's authority score we have a more
detailed guide on these seo metrics and
more which i'll link in the description
below and finally google's ranking
algorithm is so much more complex than
any of the calculations used to measure
a website's authority an authority
metric should only be used as a guide
it's a good comparative measure between
your competitors and to measure a
website's seo performance over time but
google is more complex than any of these
metrics so there are so many more
factors taken into account by google
that aren't included in these single
metrics alone so if you want to boost
your website's rankings you'll need to
optimize the elements of the website
relative to the google ranking factors
ultimately the authority scores will
naturally increase as a result of
following the tips in these videos so
